S3686D Canister HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

If your cleaning needs include bare floors, low pile carpeting and high spaces, the model S3686D could be a great fit. It is powerful, with a 1400-watt commercial motor, and yet it’s compact and lightweight, easy to carry and easy to store. It comes with deluxe tools for a wide variety of cleaning jobs and an extended reach wand to help you clean hard-to-reach areas. This is tried and true, and will serve you as a long lasting cleaning tool.

Very Powerful Little Vacuum

Pros: Great suction, Quiet and lightweight, Lots of cleaning tools.
Weaknesses: Directions not very detailed.
Recently installed hardwood floors & ceramic tiles in our home (took out all the carpet) and needed a small canister vacuum rather than the upright we have. (Don’t really need the now, except for area rugs) I also wanted something to more easily reach under beds, corners, etc. So far this vacuum seems to meet the requirements.
I have the S3686E Model, which I believe is just a newer version of the S3686D: specs/appearance are the identical and it has a 2-year warranty. It’s lightweight and you can actually use the shoulder strap that’s supplied. The 7′ hose and 20′ cord length gives you an excellent cleaning radius. The telescoping wand is longer than I expected and allows you to reach anything you can see.
The standard combination floor tool does an excellent job on bare floors, but I question it’s effectiveness on even short pile rugs. With the brushes up there’s not much moving the rug fibers to get deep dirt particles.
The motor filter could fit in better (tends to fall out if you’re not careful) but the HEPA filter locks on solid.
There are Value Packs available that include a HEPA filter, (2 ea.) motor filters, and (6 ea.) vacuum bags for $25. According to that’s a 6-month supply.
The other attachments are fairly standard, nothing exciting. However, the 14″ horsehair floor brush that came with the vacuum is W-I-D-E. It’ll definitely vacuum a large area fast.
Only had it for two days, but the “test” vacuuming indicates that it fits all of our needs, and saves some space during storage.

Very Powerful Little Machine

Pros: Powerful suction, lightweight, shoulder strap, telescopic wand, accessories, Hepa filter
Weaknesses: No retractable cord, I guess I’m lazy
I wanted a small canister vac to complement my G6 since half of our house is ceramic tile and hardwood. I also wanted something light to carry on a ladder and clean high ceilings/walls, fans, fixtures, etc. This cleaner is perfect. It has a shoulder strap, a decent length hose and cord and a telescopic wand that allows me to reach anything. The standard combination floor tool does a good job on both bare floors and carpeting. My purchase came with a bonus 14″ Horse Hair Floor tool which is outstanding. It also works great on walls for cobwebs and dust. It comes standard with a HEPA filter. These filters are a little pricey (about 20 USD) considering ’s recommendation to replace every 6 months. My sales rep recommended a Microlined vacuum bag that catches most small particles and extends the life of the filter. Other standard accessories include, a horse hair deluxe dusting brush, an upholstery brush, a crevice tool and metal telescopic wand. A “nice-to-have” feature would be a retractable , but that would also add weight to the unit. No big deal, the cord winds nicely around two fittings on the bottom of the unit. I’ve been using this for about a month and a half doing the floors once a week on average. The suction is strong! We have a cat and two kids and the floors actually look good. The upholstery brush does a good job on the left on the couch and chairs. Given the use so far, the bag is about half full and has a 2.6 quart capacity. All said, this is a powerful, well built machine and you won’t be disappointed.
