We bought our XL2200 expecting it to be the vac of our dreams. After all, a carpet salesman had recommended it. Then we started to use it, and found that the best thing about it is the weight. That would be nice if we took it everywhere we go, but first and foremost a vac needs to do a good job cleaning, and then filtering the dirt so it doesn’t get redistributed. This vac did neither.

From what I can tell, you need just a few of things in a vacuum: 1) it needs to agitate the carpet so that it loosens the dirt trapped in the pile, 2) it needs to suck up the loosened dirt and place it in the bag, and 3) it needs to filter the air that is laden with dust so that it doesn’t redistribute it in the room. Well, the beater brush is okay on the , but not nearly as good as the we used to own and the powerhead equipped canister we just bought to replace the . It also has weak suction, probably because there is a tiny motor, hence its light weight. Thirdly, the dirt gets spewed all over the room due to poor containment and a marginal bag system.

The idea is great, but the fact is the standard bags are marginal at filtering dirt, and the design of the vac is such that the interface between the handle and the head leaks air, which means it also leaks dust in to the room. In fact, our performs so poorly, I started using a dust mask when vacuuming. Now some people might not be as picky as I, but this is not exactly a cheap product, and the marketing programs hypes it as being the best thing going. We are not impressed.

We are going to donate our to charity, and hopefully someone with few carpets and a high tolerance to dust will find it fits them better than it suited us.

In summary, I’d say don’t believe the marketing hype, and unless weight is an absolute priority for you, there are much better vacuums out there.
