Miele S251i Plus Bagged Canister Vacuum Review So-so Ok vaccuum. Average suction power, average ease of use (for a canister). What can I say, it works, but it is not worth the $300 price tag. ...

My wife and I have used several canister vacuums in the past few years. We had a that died. We then purchased the Clean Air canister from Costco that worked well for about a year then began to malfunction. We purchased the that consumer reports rated as number one but found the suction was weak and the plastic seemed flimsy. We considered the brand but thought it was too expensive.

Our solution was to purchase the lower level with the additional brush head 224. This is the Plus model that CR rated as second using its original brush head. We found that the suction was better than the , and the brush raised the nap of the carpet much better as well. The beefed up brush head makes a huge difference on carpet from the stock brush head.

The is really built to last. The manager of the store was gone, so the repair tech showed us the vacuum. He pointed out the long line of and Hoovers in his shop waiting for repairs (they are an authorized repair site for these brands). He also showed the higher quality plastics used by standing on the vacuum and jumping up and down on it. This guy had to be over 220lbs! And he also said the lower level had the same motor as the higher brands, although their design and larger canister allows slightly higher suction numbers. The also has a 5 year warranty on the motor. We had to purchase an extra warranty on the , and it only covered three years.

We also feel that though the Plus is not rated as hepa, it doesn’t leak air around the vacuum as the and did, and actually seems “cleaner” than either hepa vacuum. We considered going up to the Solaris Hepa model, but it would have been several hundred dollars more, and we would have still had to upgrade the brush head to get the really strong one. Anyway, I have strong allergies, my son has allergies, both of us sit behind the vacuum and breath the exhaust with no problems at all. I really believe that this is cleaner than most hepa vacuums.
