Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum Review Took it back for a refund I have been a Hoover vacuum owner for many years and naturally went back to them for a new one.I read the positive Consumer's Report and the...
My last vacuum lasted 17 years without any repairs. Bought the U6439900 2 years ago and have spent over $200 on repairs. About 2 months after purchase an INTERNAL plastic part broke; not a part that could be damaged by user. Hoover would not pay for the repair unless we boxed up the vacuum and paid to ship to and from another city for repair. We paid for the local repair. The repair person showed the broken plastic piece to me and it appeared to me to be very thin and fragile. He said he had seen this part break on other similar Hoover vacuums. The second breakdown involved the switch that activates the carpet brush. It cost $85 to repair. Today the self-propelling wheels stopped working. Since we have already spent over $200 on this vacuum and they are now selling for less than $175 we are going to dispose of it. I am very careful with everything I own and am dismayed at the problems this machine has had.
This vacuum does an excellent job of cleaning. It has a sensor that determines when the carpet has been cleaned adequately and that feature seems to give accurate feedback. It definitely “noticed” more heavily trafficked areas and indicated that more time needed to be spent cleaning there. I thought this feature was a silly gimmick when I purchased the machine but have come to value it.
Because this vacuum cleans so well I wish it had not been prone to breaking down. We have decided not to repair it this time. I will be buying a different brand as the breakdowns have made me loose confidence in the Hoover brand.
