It’s ok, but not for pets

Pros: Fine Particle filtering (Hepa), fine suction, ease of assembly
Weaknesses: Brush doesn’t stop in upright position, mesh clogs easily with hair, noisy in upright
With my old bagless Vacuum, we had to stop twice to empty the reservoir in order to completely vacuum our apartment (We have two cats in an 850 sq ft). For anyone that doesn’t understand right away, that’s a *small* one bedroom apartment. The also kicked a whole lot of dust back into the air, so it was time for a new one. My criteria included: 1. Excellent Filtering 2. Large reservoir 3. Good suction/pickup After looking around and reading some reviews, I settled on this model at a local store. Here’s how it works; The vacuum sucks the air into one side of the container, where a mesh screen separates large stuff from fine particles. It then has a large HEPA Filter in the second chamber that filters out dust particles. This had much larger container than my , and I liked the ease of removing the container. The original price on this was $170 before tax, but I had some discounts and it for about 110. I unboxed this model and the only assembly required was four screws to attach the handle, easily done. A quick-start guide was provided, which was a plus. It sucked up the dirt on the floor at least as well as the old one (I believe it did better, but I wasn’t going to turn the old one on for a comparison) and absolutely no dust escaped from the filtering. So far, so good. Unfortunately, when I stopped to check how the reservoir was filling up I noticed that alot of had basically clogged the mesh screen, so alot of fine dust wasn’t getting to the filter. I had to open it up and use my hand to peel the hair off and to the bottom of the reservoir before continuing. I don’t know how much this affected the suction, but it was VERY clogged less than halfway through the apartment, no better than the . Additionally, when I went to do the kitchen floor, I placed the vacuum in upright position and the brush didn’t stop spinning, resulting in a very loud, unpleasant noise. And lastly, the HEPA filter’s size is both its greatest virtue and greatest flaw. It traps dust over a large area, so it doesn’t clog quickly, but to clean it out requires a fairly deep trash can or going outside, which isn’t really an option in a high-rise like mine, just to clean a filter. I returned it because it just isn’t suited for . So, to conclude, I believe this vacuum shouldn’t be purchased if you have pets that shed alot. If you don’t have any pets, then I believe it would be a fine addition for a good price, below the 200 dollar mark. A good addition to household cleaning supplies where dust is a factor. Excellent filtering, but some design oversights.
