Hoover H3060 FloorMate SpinScrub 800 Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum Review Does a great job with much less effort than a mop!!! I recently bought the FloorMate SpinScrub 800 because we have probably close to 900 square feet of porcelain tile. I noticed that the kitch...
We have a very large kitchen and laundry room, both sporting old embossed vinyl floor tiles. Traffic is heavy through these rooms from the garage and the yard. For five years now I have mopped, I have scrubbed on my hands and knees, I have Swiffered and I have Mr. Cleaned. Nothing really cleaned them, and everything left grunge behind. If you ran you hand over the floor after cleaning, it always felt sticky. Run a paper towel over it, and dirt still came up.
I read all the reviews here and decided to take a chance on the FloorMate. I ordered it on line and got free shipping, plus a $15 discount. When it arrived, I wondered how anything so adorably whimsical looking could possibly be effective. And that little 8 oz. bottle of cleaning solution seemed rather inadequate. We assembled it and the next morning I gave it a run. Since I had to use my regular vacuum to do the edges and corners first, I simply vacuumed the entire floor with that. Later I used the Floor Mate to vacuum our tiled hallway and it did a very decent job. I doubt it would pick up Cheerios or bits of crackers, but it definitely picked up cat hair, dust bunnies and even bits of fine gravel that we track in from the yard.
It took a little while to figure out the proper angle for the “floating” handle. At first, I held it straight down at the end of my arm and it didn’t do much. Bringing it more upright did the trick and I could see that it really was scrubbing. I found that you do have to move slowly back and forth for the brushes to do their job. On “inhale” mode, it did indeed suck up virtually all of the cleaning solution and the floor was dry almost immediately. I was horrified at the filthy black water in the recovery container. Our vinyl floor tiles are the same width as the FloorMate brush, so I worked in manageable quadrants, first cleaning a section and then using the Wet Pickup before moving on.
The FloorMate obviously does not fit into narrow spaces around toilets, next to the fridge, or between the washer and dryer. In those areas I just used my Mr. Clean MagicReach mop and called it a day.
I refilled the FloorMate cleaning solution tank three times to cover the big kitchen, laundry room and hallway. It’s not a big deal and a lot easier than filling and dumping buckets of water. The recovery tank is also easy to empty, and I probably did that more times than necessary just because the water looked so gross.
There’s really nothing I don’t like about my FloorMate. It’s rather noisy, but that didn’t bother me. The cord is generously long, the controls are easy to use, and it’s not too heavy for me to maneuver. A retractable cord might be a nice feature but that’s not a deal breaker for me. Best of all, the floors were really clean and did not feel sticky. Now that I’ve got them clean, it will be pretty simple to keep them that way. I bought a 48 oz. bottle of the FloorMate cleaning solution at Lowe’s so am set for quite a while. I will probably use the FloorMate twice a month, and just use the Mr. Clean mop between times to keep the cat hair and dust under control.
