Let me first say that I have read the reviews on this product, but never being one to believe the word of others (I know - why did I bother reading the reviews at all?), I had to try it for myself.

I came across this little machine while shopping at a closeout store for after-Christmas bargains. I paid $69.99 for it.

The box says “Heavy Duty,” but I would say that Dirt Devil probably meant that description for another product all together.

The box also claims that this vacuum will perform three functions:

1. Vacuums - “powerful vacuum sucks up dry debris and wet messes.” I’m not sure about the wet messes, but despite the picture of a dog shown on the box, it did NOT pick up pet hair. It also did not make an attempt at the kitty litter. My other stick vacuum at least blew it across the floor if I forgot and left the beater bar moving, this Dirt Devil went right over the top without even moving the litter. Some powerful suction, huh? If I were to redesign the packaging, I’d probably abbreviate this description and have it say “vacuum sucks.”

2. Washes - “Cleaning solution and PowerScour brush work together for heavy duty cleaning.” Ok, now I have to comment on the cleaning solution: included were two 8-oz bottles of concentrated solution. One meant for hardwood and the other for linoleum and the like. I tried the machine out on my linoleum floor so that’s the solution I used, as well. It smells quite nice and my floor is extremely clean. I’m not sure how expensive it is or where I’ll find it when I shop for it, but the instruction manual basically tells you not to use anything like Pine-sol or anything with wax in it. That being said, I can’t believe the amount of dirt I sucked off the floor. I just cleaned it! I kept dumping the little cup because, as previous reviewers have stated, the dirty water cup is small. The other thing I like about it is that the clean water/soap solution are kept separate from the dirty water sucked off the floor, so you’re not mopping with the same dirty water.

3. Dries - “sucks up dirty water and squeegees floor dry.” Well, not perfectly dry, but pretty much. Oh, and you have to be sure to push down on the lever to stop the solution from coming out or it’ll never dry - I kept forgetting that part and having to go back over it.

One other thing - they must have changed the design because the model I have (same model number though) has the ability to lock in an upright position. I’ve not had any problems with the vacuum tipping over. And the container is pretty easy to get out of the machine to dump the water. I didn’t spill a drop…and I’m not the most graceful person who ever walked the earth so I’m pretty pleased.
