Bissell 1867 steamMOP Stick Vacuum Review Great alternative to wet mops I moved into an apartment with linoleum floors in June and knew I needed something more than a bucket and mop. Initially I looked into the ...

I bought the to replace another quick wet mop system that required special refills.

What I wanted: I wanted a sturdy, durable unit that would do a good job cleaning without having to buy special unit specific cleaners. I also wanted something light weight enough that I wouldn’t mind using it often.

Why I bought: I have a carpet steamer and have been a happy customer so when I saw the for hard floors I was very interested. I’ve mentioned in other reviews that I do a lot of canning so my kitchen gets a real workout. Getting surfaces as clean as possible is very important to me. I also have another brand of steam cleaner for cleaning other surfaces like around sinks and stovetops. I have been very impressed with steam cleaning because it eliminates a lot of unnecessary chemicals. The surfaces come out squeaky clean! I did a little research on the and made the decision that was what I wanted. I have to admit the name was an influence.

What I got: The box came with the , a hanging hook and two cleaning pads.

Performance: In order to use this , a cloth cleaning pad is placed on the bottom of the head. The cleaning pad is tightened by pulling a toggle. Once the pad is on, fill the water resevoir with water then replace. I use filtered water. Te resevoir is at the back of the unit. Pull up and out then unscrew the cap and plull the plug. Fill, replace plug, crew on cap and replace onto back of the unit. Plug the unit in and wait for the red indicator light to come on signalling the unit is ready to use. This takes about 1 minute or less.

I find slowly pulling the head across the hard flooring surface works better than pushing so I lightly push then pull. Other than that, the does the rest. The floors come out squeaky clean with no residue because no chemicals have been used. As far as cleaning you really can’t beat it!

The unit is light weight enough to use on a regular basis but it is not flimsy. Storage is very easy, either stand out of the way or hang on the provided hook. The cleaning pads will become stained but that does not affect how they work. I just toss them in with a white load. They will shrink a little on the first washing but not enough to prevent them from going onto the head.

What I don’t like: The cleaning pad can be difficult to put on. The toggle button has to be pushed in then the string pulled tight. I have problems with this and usually end up pushing the toggle button with one hand and pulling the string with the aid of a small pair of pliers. Anyone with reduced dexterity in their hands will have a problem.

The trigger to release steam needs to be held in when you want steam. The trigger is on the handle and can be opperated by one or more fingers. For small floors there is not a real problem but for larger floors, this can make your hand tired. Again those with reduced hand dexterity will more than likely have a problem.
